American father, son get Japan prison terms for Ghosn escape

TOKYO (AP) — A Tokyo court handed down prison terms for the American father and son accused of helping Nissan’s former chairman, Carlos Ghosn, escape to Lebanon while awaiting trial in Japan.

Michael Taylor was sentenced Monday to two years in prison, while his son Peter was sentenced to one year and eight months. 

They were charged with helping a criminal in the December 2019 escape of Ghosn, who hid in a big box that was flown on a private jet via Turkey to Lebanon. Lebanon has no extradition treaty with Japan.

Tokyo — Japanese prosecutors have charged two Americans, Michael Taylor and his son Peter, in connection with the escape of former Nissan Chairman Carlos Ghosn to Lebanon. Tokyo District Prosecutors have been questioning the Taylors since they were extradited from the United States earlier this month. Mother arrested, charged with murder of 4-year-old son after calling 911

A South Bound Brook woman has been arrested and charged with the murder of her young son, authorities announced on Saturday.

Elina Gutti, a 38-year-old South Bound Brook resident, is accused of killing her four-year-old son, Aiden Singhania.

Gutti called 911 just before 2:30 a.m. on Saturday to report she had unexplained injuries on her wrists, according to a release from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office. Responding officers from the South Bound Brook police department found the child with severe lacerations in his bedroom.
