Mobile official on vaccine hesitancy: COVID-19 will be here for ‘many more months and years to come’

COVID-19 infections are spiking in Mobile and Baldwin counties where only one in three people are vaccinated from the virus.

The vaccination rates in both coastal Alabama counties are lower than Alabama’s 33.7 percent, which as of Monday afternoon was the lowest in the nation and — once again — fell behind Mississippi.

To put the rise of infections into perspective, the number of reported COVID-19 cases in Mobile County in July exceeds all the monthly cases during the months of March, April, May and June, according to Dr. Rendi Murphree, head of epidemiology with the Mobile County Health Department.

Louisville women’s basketball hosting two official visitors

University of Louisville women’s basketball coach Jeff Walz and his staff already have two commitments in the Class of 2022.

And now the Cardinals are looking to add more prospects to the ’22 class.

It’s Official. GE Set the Date for Its Reverse Stock Split.

said Friday that its 1 for 8 reverse stock split will happen on July 30, after the market closes, so on Monday, Aug. 2, the stock will open at around $100 a share.

That isn’t a windfall for investors. A person holding 80 shares will suddenly have 10. The total value in brokerage accounts will remain the same.

Kentucky hosting top-5 prospect for official visit

Kentucky is set to host Akron (Ohio) Buchtel 5-star wing and top-5 prospect Chris Livingston for an official visit beginning on Friday. 

Livingston is UK’s second official visitor since the NCAA recruiting dead period was lifted on June 1, which allowed for the return of on-campus recruiting for the first time in well over a year. 

He is the Wildcats’ first visitor not named Skyy Clark–who took an unofficial visit to Lexington in February of 2020 and an official visit last weekend–since 5-star power forward Greg Brown in January of 2020.

Kentucky is currently hosting not one but two elite prospects for official visits.

In addition to Akron (Ohio) Buchtel top-5 prospect Chris Livingston, Glendale (Ariz.) Dream City Christian 4-star shooting guard Shaedon Sharpe is also on campus in Lexington, according to 247Sports national recruiting analyst Travis Branham.

Bellefonte (Pa.) Westtown School 5-star center Dereck Lively II starts an official visit to UK on Sunday and Lewisville (Tex.) iSchool Academy 5-star shooting guard Keyonte George on Monday.

LSU hosting Top 100 Georgia commit CJ Washington for official visit

LSU is hosting 2022 Cedartown (Ga.) linebacker and Georgia commit C.J. Washington for an official visit this weekend, he told Geaux247 on Thursday. The Top 100 prospect on 247Sports has been committed to the Bulldogs since July 2020.

In 2020, the 6-1, 215-pounder made 35 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and six sacks with two forced fumbles while playing all over the defense. He also rushed 73 times for 698 yards and 15 scores.

On 247Sports, he’s the No. 90 overall prospect in the country, No. 9 linebacker in the nation and No. 10 prospect in Georgia.

A local official of Asian descent in West Chester Township, Ohio, is being lauded for taking off his shirt during a town hall meeting this week to show his battle scars.
