Mobile official on vaccine hesitancy: COVID-19 will be here for ‘many more months and years to come’

COVID-19 infections are spiking in Mobile and Baldwin counties where only one in three people are vaccinated from the virus.

The vaccination rates in both coastal Alabama counties are lower than Alabama’s 33.7 percent, which as of Monday afternoon was the lowest in the nation and — once again — fell behind Mississippi.

To put the rise of infections into perspective, the number of reported COVID-19 cases in Mobile County in July exceeds all the monthly cases during the months of March, April, May and June, according to Dr. Rendi Murphree, head of epidemiology with the Mobile County Health Department.

Kentucky hosting top-5 prospect for official visit

Kentucky is set to host Akron (Ohio) Buchtel 5-star wing and top-5 prospect Chris Livingston for an official visit beginning on Friday. 

Livingston is UK’s second official visitor since the NCAA recruiting dead period was lifted on June 1, which allowed for the return of on-campus recruiting for the first time in well over a year. 

He is the Wildcats’ first visitor not named Skyy Clark–who took an unofficial visit to Lexington in February of 2020 and an official visit last weekend–since 5-star power forward Greg Brown in January of 2020.

LSU is hosting 2022 Cedartown (Ga.) linebacker and Georgia commit C.J. Washington for an official visit this weekend, he told Geaux247 on Thursday. The Top 100 prospect on 247Sports has been committed to the Bulldogs since July 2020.
